SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESMajor responsibilities: To support the SEN department and teachers in the school in meeting the needs of students with special educational needs (SEN). To provide counselling services to students on a short-term basis and work with children who have been identified as having SEN. To support and monitor staff in their SEN provision. Help identify and adopt the most effective teaching approaches for pupils with SEN. Help support the SEN department to monitor teaching and learning activities to meet the needs of pupils with SEN through personal reports and guidelines. Advise the SENCOs with setting targets for raising achievement among pupils with SEN. Help the SENCOs to interpret specialist assessment data and offer professional advice. Where appropriate conduct assessments and tests to diagnose SEN. Provide counselling services on a short term basis to children who are nominated to attend counselling by Head of School/Deputy Head of School, in collaboration with the SEN department. Be available to meet with parents to discuss SEN issues as requested by Heads of School. Contribute to the development of IEPs. Develop and support therapeutic and behaviour management programmes as requested and support the Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education programme as required. Design and develop courses on topics such bullying for parents, teachers and students as requested. Provide written records of observations and meetings (with parents, students and staff) using English of a good standard.
